Bengaluru: Farmer who consumed pesticide during protest dies
Bengaluru: A farmer in the neighbouring Chikkaballapura district who had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in front of Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday, died at a hospital here early on Friday.
Ananda Kumar's death has triggered protest in parts of Chikkaballapura district, particularly in his native village of Angarekanahalli where protesters have vented their ire on local Congress leaders.
Police said they have made security arrangements in Chikkaballapura and Kumar's native village as a precautionary measure.
Kumar, along with few other farmers who had gone to meet the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday to resist attempt by panchayat members and officials to auction the cashew crop grown by him in a gomala (grazing) land, had consumed pesticide. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. JD(S) has called for Chikkaballapura bandh on Monday, following Kumar's death.
