Constable’s wife dies by suicide
Hyderabad: Accusing her husband of harassing her for additional dowry, K. Pavitra, wife of K. Avinash, a police constable, died by suicide at Malakpet. Avinash, a 2010-batch constable is currently posted at Kalapathar police station in the city. He has been booked in a case of for dowry death and detained. He will be produced before the court and sent to remand, said Malakpet Inspector K. Srinivas.
According to police, the couple were earlier in a relationship and got married in 2016 and also have a five-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Avinash got allegedly got addicted to alcohol and started harassing Pavitra physically and mentally and also for additional dowry.
Unable to bear the torture, she approached the women’ police station, where he was summoned and counselled to mend his ways, but he did not change and continued harassing her.
Upset over this, she died by suicide at their home late on Monday, the police said. Police also recovered a note purportedly written by Pavitra, which details how Avinash has been harassing her.
