Cyberabad police recovers stolen gold worth Rs 2.56 crore

Six people involved in burglaries were arrested on Monday, says police.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police has solved 18 burglary cases and has recovered gold and diamond ornaments weighing 5.7 kg worth Rs2.56 crore.

“Thefts have decreased by 34 per cent in the area in the first three months of this year. Six people involved in burglaries were arrested on Monday,” police said.

Cyberabad commissioner C.V. Anand said the police solved a burglary which occurred in March 2014, in Gachibowli and arrested one J. Mahesh Reddy, 24. Mahesh was a driver at a villa in Cyber Meadows in Kondapur. There, he met one Srinivas, another driver and shared a room with him for four months. When Srinivas told Mahesh that his owner was away for a month, Mahesh decided that was the time. “One night, he entered Cyber Meadows. The security did not suspect him as he was working in one of the villas. He hid himself till midnight and then entered the villa through a back door and stole from a locker kept in the bedroom,” the commissioner said.

He hid the booty in his room and continued with his job. Based on clues, police nabbed Mahesh and recovered from him 4.3 kilos of gold, diamond and platinum jewellery worth Rs 2.24 crore.

The commissioner said two persons, Abdul Jaffer and M. Israel who were involved in 13 burglaries in LB Nagar were also arrested and 102 tolas of gold was seized from them. In another case, C. Gopal, G. Krishna and G. Shankar, hailing from Medak, were arrested for involvement in four cases.
