Bengaluru: Detention centre for visa violators
Bengaluru: Foreigners Detention Centre has been set up at Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru to house those who continue to stay illegally in the city though their passports have expired. They will remain at the Centre till their deportation, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar told the Legislative Council.
Replying to Mr Lehar Singh and Mr B.J. Puttaswamy of BJP here on Monday, he said as many as 1105 foreign nationalas were overstaying in the city as on December 31, 2015.
Cases were filed against five foreign nationals in 2013, 7 in 2014 and 9 in 2015 on charges of sale of drugs. They have been produced before the courts. Likewise, one case each has been registered from 2014 to 2016 against foreign nationals for creating public nuisance under the influence of alcohol.
Twenty four cases have been filed against them for traffic related offences.
To check the nuisance by foreign nationals during the nights under the influence of alcohol in residential areas, a meeting with foreign students was held to prevent such incidents in future. Thirty four cases have been filed against Nigerian students/nationals in various police stations in the city, he said.
Eshwarappa: did not get promised security
Leader of opposition in the legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa on Monday complained that the state government has failed to provide him security as promised by Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar a few months ago.
