Rs 1 crore meant for goondas seized in Kollam raids

The details of the centres to be raided were sent to the respective police stations in the area only by 5.30 a.m.

Kollam: Unaccounted money valued at over Rs 1 crore and hashish oil worth Rs 40 lakh in international market were seized in a combing operation carried out in over 100 centres by the Kollam city police on Tuesday. The drive was part of ‘Operation Shylock’ launched to end the financial sources for goonda activities in the state. A special police team under city police commissioner Satheesh Bino nabbed the culprits in a secret operation which was initiated at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The details of the centres to be raided were sent to the respective police stations in the area only by 5.30 a.m. In the largest drug haul in the district in the recent past, 1.5 kg of hashish oil worth Rs 40 lakh in the international market was seized by the team from Jose of QSS colony under Pallithottam police station. The team also nabbed Raju alias Chitti Raju from Kulasekharapuram and seized Rs. 53 lakh unaccounted money. Special branch assistant commissioner and ACPs from Karunagappally, Kollam and Chathannoor joined the raid.

“The combing operation will continue as widespread irregularities were noticed by the police team. The culprits involved in criminal activities will be charged under the Goonda Act. Stringent action to prevent such activities has been initiated,” the police commissioner said. The team also seized gold, unaccounted money and documents pertaining to illegal money-lending from several persons in the city limit.
