Hyderabad: Teen horseman appears in court

Police found the boy's father Farooq purchased the horse involved in the accident two months ago for Rs 30,000.

Hyderabad: The boy who rode the horse that killed a biker on Sunday was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday by police after confirming his date of birth. He was sent to a rescue home by court.

The police is also checking whether the boy's father can be charged in the case for allowing his minor son to ride a horse on public roads creating panic. The cops also said that they have started a search for agencies that can take care of the horse.

Police found the boy's father Farooq purchased the horse involved in the accident two months ago for Rs 30,000.

The horse was earlier a race horse, but as it had become old its owner sold it to Farooq. He had another horse too which he had purchased a year ago. Farooq kept both the horses in his house in Saifi Colony, and used to rent it out it for wedding processions charging around Rs 2,000 a day.

But Farooq did not get the animals registered with the Animal Welfare Board. Police said they will take action against him for violating the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act by using horses for wedding processions without permission.

“We are seeking legal opinion on establishing Farooq's role in Sunday's incident,” inspector P. Jagadees-hwar said. Meanwhile, Khazam Khan who was also injured seriously in Monday's accident is out of danger.

On Sunday, when Hameed Shah Khan and Khazam Khan were riding on a bike, the horse the boy was riding stomped on them killing Hameed on the spot.
