Tamil Nadu: History-sheeter wanted for attacking policeman

Chennai: Police have launched a hunt for a history-sheeter and his accomplices who attacked a policeman with a weapon near Guduvanchery, 50 km from the city on Tuesday night. The history-sheeter, Surya, is wanted in connection with the country bomb attack on the house of former village panchayat president’s house in Perumathanallur village near Guduvanchery on December 5.

K.S. Ravi (50), a DMK functionary, and his brother, K.S. Kumar (55) lived in separate houses in the same compound. Both of them are into real estate business. On the night of December 5, a gang, which had come in a car, hurled three country bombs at the house and fled the scene. Two bombs exploded and Kumar suffered injuries. The former panchayat chief, Ravi, was not present at home, police investigations revealed. Guduvanchery police registered a case and arrested about ten persons in connection with the case- all relatives of the rowdy. However, Surya is still absconding. On Tuesday evening, a team headed by Guduvanchery inspector Govindaraj were on vehicle checks near Aadhanur junction when a speeding car evaded police barricades and fled. After a brief chase, the car was intercepted and police secured the occupants of the car which included Surya. However, taking the cops by surprise, Surya and his accomplices, Vicky and Shylu attacked the Inspector and fled the scene. The inspector was admitted to a hospital. Police have detained Surya’s wife, Ponmalar and the driver of the car.
