Bank manager murdered by fiancee's jilted lover
BENGALURU: Two weeks after a deputy manager of a private bank was found brutally murdered in Uttari in Bengaluru south, the Kaggalipura police have cracked the case and arrested a man who was in love with the manager’s fiancée.
Police arrested 29-year-old Shivabasavegowda, a resident of Kasavanahalli for killing Anil Raju, the deputy manager of Kotak Mahindra Bank at the M.G. Road branch, on December 3. The incident came to light the next day when passersby spotted the body of Anil, a resident of Banashankari in Bengaluru.
Anil was engaged six months ago and was set to get married on January 21, 2018. But Shivabasavegowda, who was in love with Anil’s fiancée, wanted to stop the marriage. The police said that Anil’s fiancée had not reciprocated to Shivabasavegowda’s overtures. Since the engagement, he had tried hard to break the relationship, but failed.
On December 3, Shivabasavegowda called Arun and insisted they meet as he wanted to share some important information about Arun’s fiancée.
Shivabasavegowda took Anil to an isolated place in Uttari and hacked him to death, police said.
He confessed to killing Anil as he didn’t want anyone to marry the girl he loved. During the initial investigation, the police were looking at the financial dispute angle behind the murder. They later learnt about Shivabasavegowda through the call detail records (CDR) of Anil, which helped them crack the case.
