Thrissur: Acting on a complaint of molestation filed by a 19-year-old woman, the police has arrested former Guruvayur municipality secretary Reguram, a resident of Eroor in Ernakulam. Chalakkudy magistrate court remanded him in judicial custody. The alleged incident took place at the official quarters of the civic body official in May 2015, and the victim filed the complaint on November 26 this year. The official who was transferred to Kottayam last month had been absconding since and was picked up by police from Thrissur on Monday and produced before the court.
The victim had said in her complaint that the secretary had asked her to come to his official residence at Mavinchuvadu to give her a certificate and molested her. Guruvayur Temple police had earlier arrested a family friend of the victim on the secretary's complaint of blackmailing. The family friend had taken Rs 3.9 lakh from him by blackmailing him over the alleged molestation, circle inspector N. Rajesh Kumar told DC. He said the money was seized and the probe completed confirming the blackmailing. The complaint of the woman was filed with Kandanassery Police Station near Guruvayur, and both the cases were probed separately, he added.
