Hyderabad: A couple from the city was arrested by the Hayathnagar police for murdering a woman and stealing her gold and silver jewellery on Wednesday.

The murder of C. Lingamma, 50, a resident of MS Maqtha in Somajiguda, and native of Sangareddy, took place on November 11, on the outskirts of the city at Hayathnagar. Her body was found in a decomposed stated in the bushes at a secluded place at Kuntloor road.

L.B. Nagar DCP, Sunpreet Singh, said that based on the clues during the probe, accused Kanduri Ramesh, 48 and his wife K. Venkatamma, 53, have been arrested. He said that Lingamma had migrated to MS Maqtha 10 days prior to her murder. Ramesh, a mason who used to take labourers along with him for marble-cutting work, came in contact with Lingamma.

On the day of the incident (November 11), he offered her work but had taken her to toddy shops and made her drink heavily. During the night, he took her on a scooter to a secluded area and tried to rape her.

When the woman resisted, Ramesh killed her by hitting on the head with a hammer, slit her throat and strangulated her. After confirming her death, the accused stole her gold ear tops, gold nose stud, silver anklets and fled from the spot, the DCP said.

Accused Ramesh went home and informed his wife K. Venkatamma, 53, about the murder.

The next day, they mortgaged the anklets and paid their house rent. The duo was arrested and produced before a court, said DCP Sunpreet.
