Chennai: The city police on Tuesday arrested five men for murdering a 30-year-old man, over some dispute they had for over one year.
The arrested were identified as Shabeer (24) from Senneerkuppam, Boobalan (27) from Ambattur, Jeganathan (26) from Avadi, George (30) from Thirumullaivoyal and Balaji (37) from Senneerkuppam.
According to police, the arrested people are all autorickshaw drivers and were often threatened by one Sathyagiri, on parking issues. He would also threaten them not to pick passengers from crowded junctions.
In past one year, Sathyagiri is alleged to have assaulted some of these men, when they picked up commuters against his directions. Angered over continuous nuisance, the five men plotted to do away with Sathyagiri, and on Monday night they attacked him with knives, and murdered him at Poonamallee.
Poonamalle police filed a case and arrested the five, and remanded them in judicial custody.
