Kollam West Police quizzes teachers in student suicide case

The police also collected evidence and statements from the girl's classmates and other witnesses.

Kollam: Kollam West Police interrogated teachers Sindhu Paul and Crescence Navis, accused in the death of Gauri Neha, 15, who jumped from the terrace of the second floor of Trinity Lyceum in Kollam on October 20. The investigation team under West CI V.S. Biju on Monday verified the statements by the accused with that of the students and witnesses in the case, looking for possible contradictions. The accused had got bail and then surrendered before the Kollam District Magistrate Court on Friday. As per bail conditions, the accused were present before the investigation team on Saturday and their statements were recorded.

The police also collected evidence and statements from the girl’s classmates and other witnesses. According to the anticipatory bail conditions sanctioned by the High Court, the accused should be present before the investigative officer on all Saturdays until the chargesheet is submitted on the case. Gauri, daughter of Prasannan, of Makkatt Kizhakkathil, Kannime- lcheri in Sakthikulanga- ra, a 10th Standard student, jumped from the second floor of the primary block of the school on October 20 and succumbed to her injuries in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on October 23.

The teachers were absconding since then. The Police had charged the accused under sections 511, 305, 34 of IPC including abetment to suicide and sections under the Juvenile Justice Act for torturing the girl. According to the statement given by Gauri’s father, she was mentally tortured by her sister’s classteacher which provoked her to take the extreme step.
