Bengaluru: Woman chases molesters, two caught after attempting to flee

Bengaluru: A 27-year-old woman was groped by two bike-borne men while she was returning home after finishing her gym. She was brave enough to chase them with her friend and caught one of them who was handed over to the HSR Layout police on Friday.

The police arrested two people, identified as Narayanaswamy, 55, and Manoj, 35, both residents of Begur and labourers, in connection with the incident.

The police said that the woman, who hails from Kalaburagi, is a resident of HSR Layout. The woman, who works at a private company, had just finished her work and gone to the gym. Around 8 pm, she was waiting outside the gym, while her friend had gone to bring his bike from the parking lot. Meanwhile, two men on a bike groped her from behind and sped away.

The woman along with her friend chased them for about half-a-kilometre and intercepted them. While they caught Narayanaswamy, who was riding the pillion, Manoj, who was riding the bike, abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. When the woman was talking to the police over the phone to inform about the incident, Narayanaswamy tried to escape but the public caught him and beat him up. Soon, the Hoysala patrolling staff came to the spot and took him into custody.

The HSR Layout police, who registered a case under Section 354A (sexual harassment) of the IPC, arrested the absconding accused, Manoj, the next day based on the information provided by Narayanaswamy.
