Hyderabad: City gamblers are still using mostly demonetised currency for betting. The Rachakonda special operations team arrested a gang in Saroornagar and found three new Rs 2,000 notes with them. Rest of the cash was in demonetised currency.
In two raids at Asif Nagar, Narayanpur and Saroornagar, police recovered around Rs 4 lakh from gamblers. They were using demonetised currency.
“These people are still circulating demonetised currency among themselves. Most of the gamblers are vendors and small traders. They use this currency to run their business also. Since there is still time to get it changed they are confident that they can get it exchanged via banks,” said SOT inspector K. Narsing Rao.
The task force team raided a house in Asif Nagar and arrested a group of gamblers, while the SOT Rachakonda raided two places and arrested 15 people. The cops recovered around Rs 3 lakh from them.
