Constable Injured in Hit-and-Run Incident During Election Checkpoint Duty

Unidentified Vehicle Speeds Through Checkpoint, Hits Constable Mahesh

Hyderabad: Mahesh, a constable deputed to the Gopalapuram PS, Hyderabad city was hit by a speeding car. The incident happened when he along with other personnel were conducting vehicle checks as a part of the election duties. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, leaving Mahesh, 32, with minor injuries, came to light on Friday.

The vehicle which is yet to be identified, approached the check point and in the process of maneuvering through the barricades at the check point, picked up speed and hit Mahesh.

It sped from the place in a flash. The team alerted other check points en route, but the vehicle disappeared. Police suspect that those in the vehicle could be drunk and in an attempt to escape checks, hit the cop and does away.

Gopalapuram police registered a case against the vehicle driver. The accident was caught on camera, but the vehicle number could not be captured in the footage.
