Thrissur: Deputy collector seeks bribe, suspended
Thrissur: The state government has suspended deputy collector K.V. Muraleedharan following complaints of maladministration and demand for bribes.
Thrissur collector S. Shanavas had sent a report to the government citing that Muraleedharan, who was in-charge of the recent Lok Sabha elections, was not discharging his duty properly and was delaying bills related to election expenses.
He had allegedly demanded bribes to pass the bill to meet the expenses for officially videographing the elections and their preparations. He was putting notes on the bills and delaying them to be passed as per the official procedure, it was reported.
The Lalur issue
On the Lalur issue, where the work to set up a sports complex at the site of the erstwhile waste dumping yard was stopped, the collector said that the construction agency had been asked to maintain status quo. “The government will take a call on what to do at the site within a week and the district administration will act accordingly,” he said.
Earlier, the ministers from Thrissur had announced that a sports complex with the name of veteran footballer I.M. Vijayan, who is a native of Thrissur, will be constructed at the site which was earlier a dumping yard.
After the commencement of the work, the construction agency has been asked to maintain status quo as directed by the state government.
