Bengaluru: Pickpockets held near Majestic in two raids

In the first raid, the police arrested six people and recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash and gold valuables worth Rs 37.65 lakh.

Bengaluru: In two separate raids, Upparpet police busted two gangs of robbers and arrested eight people, including two women. They used to pick pockets of passengers using Majestic bus stand and carry out house thefts.

In the first raid, the police arrested six people and recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash and gold valuables worth Rs 37.65 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Venkatesh (39), Lakshmi (30), both residents of Hubbali, Manukaumar (29) of Anekal, Bhagyamma (50) hailing from Tamil Nadu, Manja (24) of Magadi Road and Amjad (30) from Jeevanpalya. All of them used to pick pockets and steal valuables from women’s hand bags. They were operating in the Majestic area.

With their arrest the police have claimed to have cracked 28 cases of robbery, including two house thefts.

In the second raid the police arrested two men, identified as Syed Ismail (32) of Shakhambari Nagar and Suresh (49) of Vidyaranyapura. Three cases of pick-pocketing were solved and the police recovered Rs 4 lakh in cash from them.

During questioning, they said they used to board buses, steal valuables and alight soon to evade suspicion.
