Police rushed to the spot and shifted Ramya and Mahesh to a hospital.

Hyderabad: Burglars who had gone on a looting spree at Balaji Nagar in Kukatpally left a woman, who tried to stop a break-in, injured. The incident happened around 12.30am late on Friday.

Veeren Chaudhury, a techie working with a firm in the city and his wife Ramya, who is also a software professional lost eight tolas of gold from their flat inside Sai Nivas apartment located at Balajinagar in Kukatpally. Mr Chaudhury, who had gone out to meet friends had locked the door from the outside as his wife was asleep.

Around 1.10am, four youth broke the lock using a bolt cutter and entered the house. They then proceeded to open the almirah in the bedroom with the help of a key that was kept on a shelf and got their hands on the gold. But before exiting the house, they noticed the bangles on Ramya’s hands and tried to take them.

When she resisted, they attacked her and fled from the spot. Hearing Ramya’s screams, Mahesh, a neighbour came to her rescue but the fleeing robbers attacked him with stones. “I tried to catch them, but they overpowered me and hit me with the stones they had with them. There were around five individuals and they spoke Telugu,’’ Mr Mahesh said.

Officials said the same gang had also entered an adjacent apartment. They also broke the locks of four other locked flats in the apartment but there was no property loss. Police rushed to the spot and shifted Ramya and Mahesh to a hospital.
