Bengaluru: In yet another incident of criminals attacking policemen, a rowdy sheeter and his associates attacked a police sub inspector and his team, snatched his service pistol and shot at the police informant. However, the police managed to overpower the assailants and arrested two of them.
The incident was reported in Hangal in Haveri district on Friday afternoon. Police said there were several vehicle theft cases registered in Basavanagudi police station against the gang.
Following a tip off, a police team, headed by SI Rajashekhar, had gone to Hangal to nab the accused, identified as Manjunath Yellur alias Manja.
“The police team comprised of seven members and an informant. As per the tip off the team raided a place in Hangal and nabbed Manja. However, Manja’s associates attacked the policemen. Manja snatched the pistol from Rajashekhar and shot at the police informant in his leg.
The other policemen, though shocked by the incident, managed to overpower Manja and snatched the pistol back,” the police said.
Manja and his associate, also named Manja, were immediately arrested and the injured informant was rushed to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Manja was involved in several cases and is also a rowdy sheeter in a police station in Haveri.
