Inspired by Suriya's film 'Gang', man turns ACB cop, arrested

Hyderabad: Inspired by Suriya's film 'Gang', Nutheti Jayakrishna, impersonated as an ACB officer and previously charged in 34 cases, was arrested by special operation team (SOT), Shamshabad zone.

Jayakrishna, who is currently facing four cases in the state, had never used a smartphone. He extorted hundreds of public servants from various departments, but none of them have seen him in person and transferred amounts to him just with a phone call.

The modus operandi of Jayakrishna was that he was operating from Bengaluru. He would work only from 11 am to 6 pm and made calls to his targets, travelling in city buses, to dodge investigators from tracing his location. However, after tracking more than 200 mobile numbers for close to a month and connecting them with other clues, SOT sleuths finally nabbed him.

According to police, Jayakrishna shifted base to Bengaluru after coming out of prison in June 2023, to get away from the Andhra Pradesh police radar, where he was arrested multiple times and is still most wanted in cases pending against him in different parts of the state.

Inquiries revealed that he would obtain SIM cards in the name of some elderly persons saying that he was in need of a SIM card and that he does not have documents for the same and also offered them some money.

He also purchased basic model feature phones costing very less in the name of other persons. The bank accounts he used to collect money from his targets also belonged to his friends, who were not aware of his illegal activities.

He would tell them that he was getting money for his mother’s treatment or some other excuse.

Cops found that Jayakrishna would leave home in the morning informing that he was going to work, board a city bus and switch on the phone. Till 6 pm, he would travel changing buses and calling targets continuously. He would switch off the mobile phone at some location and change to another bus to go home.
