Bengaluru: Man murders widowed sister over illicit affairs'

Sumaiya was a part-time teacher and had fights with her brother Ataullah (30) over her alleged affairs.

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old widow was brutally stabbed to death on Friday by her younger brother over the woman’s alleged illicit affairs with other men.

The deceased, Sumaiya Shaheen, was a mother of four. The deceased, after her husband’s death in an accident about four years ago, was living in a rented house alone in Thanisandra, while her four sons aged between 8 and 13 were studying in a residential madrasa in the city.

Sumaiya was a part-time teacher and had fights with her brother Ataullah (30) over her alleged affairs. The accused was arrested by the Hennur police. The police said that Ataullah, a resident of Sulibele in Hoskote taluk and a perfume seller, had on many occasions warned Sumaiya which ended in fights.

Around 4 pm on Friday, Ataullah along with his friend Shadab went to Sumaiya’s house and picked up a fight again. It turned violent and in the heat of the argument, Ataullah stabbed Sumaiya multiple times, killing her on the spot. The accused and his friend escaped from the scene and hid in Hosakote to evade arrest.

Around 7 am, Sumaiya’s another brother Abdul saw her main door open and spotted bloodstains. He went inside to check and found her lying in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a hospital for the postmortem.

While Ataullah is in police custody and has confessed to the crime, his friend Shadab is still absconding. The police who registered a case are searching for Shadab.
