Thiruvanathapuram: Activist stabbed after sticker row

The ABVP took out a protest march on the campus and elicited a promise from the management that stern action will be taken against Sajin.

Thiruvanathapuram: The ongoing skirmishes between SFI and ABVP workers in the district took another turn after a right wing student activist was stabbed for questioning the use of Che Guvera sticker on a vehicle. The victim was identified as Abhiram, 22, a second-year student at the VTM NSS College, Dhanuvachapuram. The accused was identified as his batchmate Sajin, 24, of Pozhiyoor. “ABVP is the sole union of this college. Abhiram and a team of his friends had asked Sajin not to enter the campus with the sticker of Che Guevera pasted on his bike. He was not ready to do this,” a police official said.

“They had warned him repeatedly and used to question his political inclination frequently over the past few days. However, on Thursday the altercation turned serious and Sajin stabbed him,” he added. Abhiram suffered a deep wound in his stomach. He was admitted to a nearby government hospital and was transferred to the Medical College Hospital. His condition was reportedly stable. Parassala police started a manhunt to find the accused who fled the scene.

The ABVP took out a protest march on the campus and elicited a promise from the management that stern action will be taken against Sajin. Meanwhile, another campus fight was reported between ABVP and SFI activists at SN College, Chempazhanthy, over the destruction of each other’s flag poles.
