Counterfeit money rolling in from Tamil Nadu'

The fake notes were in the denomination of 500 and 1,000.

Kottayam: Counterfeit currencies are being distributed in Idukki district from Tamil Nadu, it is alleged.

On Tuesday, the police seized seven counterfeit notes of 500 rupee denomination from Idukki on the complaint of a woman who went to a bank at Murikkassery for depositing the money. “The source of the currency notes has not been ascertained so far and the investigation is continuing,” Idukki Special Branch DySP, V.N. Saji, told DC. The police have intensified the drive to find out similar cases.

Police sources suspected that the currencies were being supplied from Kambammettu in Tamil Nadu. The fake notes were in the denomination of 500 and 1,000.

One week ago, the police had arrested a few persons for printing currency notes in a colour photostat machine at Nedunkandam. “We seized the notes on the basis of the complaint of a shop owner. The notes were easily identifiable since the water marks were absent in them,” Kattapana DySP, PK Jagadeesh, who investigated the case told DC.
