Anantapur: Doctors blamed for death of infant
Anantapur: Mild tension prevailed for some time at the labour ward of the general hospital here on Thursday when the relatives of a pregnant woman alleged that negligence of the doctors led to the death of the infant.
They staged a protest against the negligence of the hospital staff in providing immediate medical aid to the pregnant woman who was admitted in advanced labour pains. The pregnant woman delivered but the infant died soon after.
In view of the series of deaths of infants for the past five months, the fresh incident sparked tension.
Sources said Venkata Gopal of Sanjeevapuram in BK Samudram mandal in the district brought his wife Naga Sulochana, who was in labour, the to general hospital here on Thursday.
The doctors and staff allegedly neglected to provide necessary treatment to the pregnant woman in time and she delivered on the hospital premises.
The infant died soon after delivery and this led to anger among the family members on the staff and doctors.
Hospital superintendent Dr Jagannnath promised family members of the victim that a probe would be conducted into the incident and he would take action against the responsible.
Health minister Nani and collector Satyanarayana during their recent inspection directed the general hospital authorities to provide reprot on quality of medical aids. The minister also warned over stringent action.
Last week, the minister inspected the hospital following a series of deaths of infants at various wards in the general hospital, Anantapur.
