Bengaluru: Friends of Pocso accused threaten complainant
Bengaluru: A woman entrepreneur was allegedly waylaid and threatened by a gang of unidentified miscreants close to Cubbon Park police station, on Tuesday morning. The gang wanted her to take back a POCSO case she had registered against a rowdy sheeter, who is currently in judicial custody for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The complainant, Sunitha, a resident of Lavelle Road, told Deccan Chronicle that a gang of four armed men threatened her at knife point to withdraw the case, which she has filed against a cab driver for molesting a 10-year-old girl, an orphan.
She said the victim was the daughter of her domestic help, who died a few months ago. Since then she has been taking care of her education. The complainant said that on Monday night and subsequent morning, the gang members harassed her. They came in a red car and a bike and intercepted her. They threatened her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw the case filed against one of their associates.
The incident took place at UB Circle signal when she was returning home with the victim after visiting the police station to record the statement. The girl was sexually assaulted and attacked with a blade by one Narotham Kumar, a cab driver, on May 24 while she was in the flat of Sunitha’s mother.
“The girl was sexually and physically assaulted, following which she came to me and explained her ordeal. I took her to Bowring Hospital and later filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police. The police arrested him under POCSO and remanded him to judicial custody,” the complainant said.
Police investigation revealed that Narotham was a habitual offender in Soladevanahalli and used to visit Sunitha's mother house under the pretext of helping her.
In her plaint to the police, Sunitha stated that on Tuesday around 7.30 pm, she had gone to police station with the victim to record her statement and while returning a gang of four people intercepted her at the UB City signal and threatened to kill her if she did not withdraw the complaint. Scared about her safety and that of the minor, she raised an alarm. As a result, one of the accused was caught while the others managed to escape. “I have sent her to hostel for her safety. I live alone and I am also scared about my safety. My mother-in-law also lives alone in a nearby flat. I have also met the Police Commissioner. I need security as the gang is constantly after me,” she said.
Based on the complaint the Cubbon Park police on Tuesday registered a case of sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation against the accused.
