Champions Trophy finals: 15 booked for cheering for Pakistan in MP

The police detained and later booked them under section 124A (sedition), and 120 B( criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Bhopal: As many as 15 people were arrested in Mohad village in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district on charges of sedition for celebrating Pakistan’s victory in Champions Trophy final held on Sunday.

According to Indore inspector general of police Ajey Sharma, the police action came following a complaint filed in the Shahpur police station in the district by a local alleging that some youngsters were celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the Champions Trophy final by bursting crackers and distributing sweets at places close to homes of people belonging to majority community.

The police detained and later booked them under section 124A (sedition), and 120 B( criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the local court on Tuesday. All the accused aged 18-40 years.

In another incident, three people, belonging to a particular community, were on Tuesday evening arrested in Khamaria village in Ujjain district for raising religious slogans while cheering victory of Pakistan in the Sunday's Champions Trophy final match.
