Telangana: Driver flees with police wireless

A car driver driving on the wrong side 'stole' the wireless set of a traffic constable.

Hyderabad: A car driver driving on the wrong side 'stole' the wireless set of a traffic constable when he intercepted him during a drunk driving check. The incident which happened in Jeedimetla came to light after the policeman lodged a complaint. On Saturday night, around 10 personnel including two SI, constables and home guards were conducting a drunk driving check near Rytu Bazaar in Jeedimetla. One of the SIs intercepted a speeding car coming on the wrong side. When the vehicle did not stop one constable Raju tried to intercept the vehicle and waved at the driver to stop. But the driver sped away at high speed.

Police said that in this process a part of the car hit the wireless set which the constable was holding and as a result the set fell in the vehicle. But the antenna remained in Raju’s hand. After this the vehicle sped towards industrial area and disappeared. “The incident happened on Saturday night and they searched for the vehicle at night and on Sunday. A complaint was filed on Monday and a case od theft was registered,” Jeedimetla SI K. Ramakrishna said adding that they are working on clues. However, sources said that while Raju tried to intercept the vehicle the driver who is suspected to be drunk, snatched the wireless set and fled. But police denied this claim.
