KOZHIKODE: Vadakara Rural SP M.K. Pushkaran has recommended against the parole for CPM worker Surendran (Anthyeri Sura), who is serving a life sentence in connection with the murder of IUML worker Mayin Haji in 2011. He is currently lodged in Kannur central prison. The SP confirmed that he wrote about Sura’s case to the jail authorities as “not recommended” as his presence could further worsen clashes between the CPM and IUML workers in the area, which is also witnessing violence on a daily basis. To the queries whether he was facing pressure from the ruling CPM over his decision, he said that he was not affected and would act only in the interest of the society.
