THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police had last week arrested 828 persons wanted in various criminal cases, including crime against women and children, during a special drive across the state, a statement from police the headquarters said on Thursday. The arrested included 17 involved in sexual offences against children and 17 in crime against women. About 650 persons were wanted in cases like that of trafficking of ganja and other substances, illegal sand mining and use of explosives.
At least 53 others wanted in various cases, including goonda attacks, and 43 persons in robbery cases were also held and 882 cases registered. The maximum arrets were in Thiruvananthapuram city, 117, followed by Kochi city, 98. While 46 were nabbed in Thiruvananthapuram rural, in Ernakulam rural it was 94, in Kozhikode city 13 and 17 in Kozhikode rural. The arrests in other police districts were as follows: Kollam City 60, Kollam Rural 18, Pathanamthitta 7, Alappuzha 73, Kottayam 45, Idukki 21, Thrissur City 57, Thrissur Rural 50, Palakkad 44, Malappuram 17, Kannur 15, Wayanad 9 and Kasargod 27.
