Hyderabad: An autorickshaw was arrested by officers of the Cyber Crime Cell of Rachakonda on Tuesday for harassing a student.
The police said that Deeravath Vinod, who hailed from Nalgonda district, created a WhatsApp group and fake profiles on Facebook through which he posted pictures and audio recordings of the girl online. He wanted her wedding to get cancelled.
Vinod was earlier arrested by the Nalgonda Police in 2016 and charged with the kidnap and rape of a minor girl in Wadapally.
According to the police, Vinod befriended the victim, a student of a women’s college in Koti, and later fell in love with her. However, the girl started avoiding him after a few months.
Enraged by this, Vinod created a WhatsApp group and shared audio recordings in which the girl could be heard saying that she was in love with him. He then started blackmailing her and saying that if she didn’t maintain a relationship with him, then he would upload nude pictures of her to social media.
He even called the girl’s brother and maligned her character. He wanted her marriage, which is scheduled to take place soon, to get cancelled.
Meanwhile, out of fear, the girl decided to stay at the hostel. When Vinod came to know about this, he went to the hostel, grabbed her phone and transferred all her photos to his phone. He then edited the pictures and uploaded them to Facebook.
“He also gathered the contact numbers of the victim’s relatives from her mobile and started calling them and saying vulgar things about her,” said ACP (Cyber Crime) S. Harinath.
