Vijaywada: Cop hires killers to kill kin, held for conspiring to kill son-in-law
Vijayawada: In a bizarre incident, an assistant sub-inspector of police attached to the Nunna police station in Vijayawada was arrested by the Satyanarayanapuram police on Saturday on charges of conspiring to get his son-in-law murdered by hiring contract killers. According to sources, Ambothula Rama Rao, 52, who lives in the police quarters in Mutyalampadu, hatched a plan to get his daughter’s husband, a welder at I-Town, murdered, since he had been harassing her since long.
Rama Rao used his contacts with offenders and roped in three persons — Shaik Khasim, 55, Shaik Chand Basha, 33, and Ganji Sowri, 47. He agreed to pay the trio Rs 5 lakh to kill his son-in-law. Rama Rao gave Rs 1.60 lakh as advance to the hired killers. The trio planned to befriend their target and kill him by offering liquor laced with poison. However, police got a tip-off of their plans and arrested the three hired killers and Rama Rao. The cops also seized Rs 6 lakh in cash from the ASI and the three hired killers. They were sent to 15-day judicial remand on Saturday.
