Kollam murder case: Jayamol under stress for 1 year
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kottiyam police in its detailed probe interrogated Tina, sister of Jithu Job who was brutally killed by their mother, Jayamol, on Saturday. Kollam DCP Dr A. Srinivas told this newspaper that Jayamol who committed the murder impulsively was suffering from minor psychiatry illness. Tina had completed her graduation and is currently preparing for PSC exams. A team led by Kottiyam CI G. Ajayanath held a detailed interrogation of Tina on Saturday. She told the team that her mother was suffering from psychiatric issues which were not treated on time as they never anticipated such a macabre murder.
Srinivas who himself is a medical doctor told DC that since Jayamol was impulsive in her character, she killed her son, Jithu Job who was a Class IX student of Kundara M. G.D. Boys High School. “There are two types of psychiatric illnesses — major and minor. While a person with major psychiatric illness will not be in a frame of mind to take care of themselves, a person with minor psychiatric illness like Jayamol never know that there are in fact issues with her which led her to commit the impulsive murder,” said Srinivas.
Earlier, Tina told the investigation team that her mother had issues whenever Jithu visited his father’s family. Jayamol never liked her son visiting her husband, Job G. John's family house. Sadly Jayamol would calm down after a while which the family did not take seriously. However, Tina said it is painful that the locals have been casting aspersions on her mother’s character.
Ajayanath, Kottiyam Circle Inspector told DC that in the coming days more relatives will be interrogated. According to the police, Jayamol strangled her son to death in the kitchen on Wednesday. Then, she dragged his body to the backyard and burnt him with dry leaves and coconut shells. Jithu’s burnt remains were recovered from an empty plot 300 metres away from the house on Wednesday evening. Jaya is said to have confessed to dragging the body to the empty plot all by herself.
