Tamil Nadu: 6 member killer gang held after hot chase

While Amrithraj has five cases pending against him, the motive for the killer gang's strike today was not immediately known, police said.

SALEM: In yet another sensational chase-and-nab-episode that lasted for nearly two hours, special police teams from Salem and Namakkal districts apprehended six members of a killer-gang near Paramathi Velur in Namakkal district. The assailants, all said to be ‘hired killers’ from Thoothukudi district down south, had while fleeing after brutally attacking two others near Mettur in Salem district earlier this afternoon, attacked the police party pursuing them. But the special police teams, led by Namakkal district SP, A. Arlarasu, determinedly gave a hot chase and nabbed all six of them.

The gang members had earlier mercilessly hacked one 43-year-old Amrithraj and his friend Murali, who were waiting at a roadside hotel in Cauvery cross area near Mettur after ordering food. Suddenly, the six-member masked gang encircled them, attacked the duo with deadly weapons .

However, Omalaur DSP, Mr. Bhaskaran, rushed to the incident spot and immediately launched a hunt for the fleeing gang by alerting all near check-posts. After an hour's effort, the cops were able to first intercept the gang at Oonchampalayam village, leading to the subsequent hot chase by the special police teams.
