Eleven RSS workers get double life term for Vishnu murder

The trial was completed speedily based on the directions of the High Court.

Thiruvananthapuram: The additional sessions court here on Monday awarded double life imprisonment to 11 RSS workers and fined them Rs 55,000 each for the murder of CPM worker V.V. Vishnu at Kaithamukku on April 1, 2008. Sivalal of Karikkakom, 15th accused, was awarded life imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 by judge TK Minimol. Vishnu's family will be given Rs 3 lakh from the fines collected from the accused. Harilal of Keraladityapuram, 13th accused, was awarded three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000 on Saturday.

Another accused Arun Kumar was acquitted the other day. Those who were awarded double life terms were former MG college union chairman T. Santhosh of Kaithamukku, Manoj alias Kakkotta Manoj, Binukumar and Renjith Kumar of Manacaud, Balu Mahendra of Malappirikkonam, Vipin of Anayara, Satheesh Kumar of Kadavoor, Bose of Pettah and Manikantan of Vattiyoorkavu, Vinod Kumar of Chenchri and Subash of Sreekariyam.

Assam Ani, 14th accused, is absconding whereas third accused Renjith was hacked to death during the course of investigation. All the 11 suspects were been accused of murder, conspiracy, rioting and unlawful assembly. Vishnu was hacked to death in broad day light near the passport office as a result of political rivalry. The trial was completed speedily based on the directions of the High Court.
