Five held for smuggling ganja in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Malkalgiri special operations team and Keesara police apprehended three persons who were smuggling 430 kg of ganja from Odisha to the city, concealed in eight ’iron pillar boxes’ in a mino-truck. Police arrested Mohan Rathod, Pedda Babu Rao and Maddela Ramesh; organiser Bahulya Leelavathi and two others escaped.

In a separate operation, Hayathnagar police arrested Akkabathula Lakshamaa Kumar, 32, and Ganta Srinu Babu, 26, and seized 200 kgs of ganja, a tanker in which the narcotic was hidden, and a mobile phone, all worth Rs 60.10 lakh. They were transporting ganja from Rampachodavaram in Andhra Pradesh to Pine.

The Bahadurpura police arrested one K. Akash, 25, of Maruthinagar, Attapur, and confiscated 5.8 kg of ganja, a two-wheeler, a cellphone, and Rs 27,000 cash.
