Drunken brawls kill 3 on Deepavali day in Kovai

Singanallur police conducted investigations and formed two special teams to nab the gang.

Coimbatore: Three persons were murdered in separate incidents in Coimbatore district on Wednesday following drunken brawls.

According to police, Suresh Kumar, 28, a resident of Indira Nagar in Ondipudur worked at a lathe workshop in Ondipudur.

On Wednesday night, he was returning home along with his co-worker Karthik, 28. The duo had drunk liquor. They were irritated when sparks fell on them from crackers burst by a gang of youth. The argument led to fisticuffs and they started to assault each other. The gang stabbed Suresh in the stomach and he died on the spot. Karthik sustained severe stab injuries and was rescued by neighbours and admitted at the government hospital in Coimbatore.

Singanallur police conducted investigations and formed two special teams to nab the gang. Police arrested Chandru, Gokul Nathan, Anishkumar and Ravi on Thursday. They were sent to remand and further investigation is on.
In another incident in Pollachi, a trader was murdered by his friend in a drunken brawl. Omnibus driver Arumugam, 51, from Mahalingapuram used to stay in a local lodge in Pollachi. He befriended a watch trader Guru, 45, who used to stay at the lodge. On Wednesday, both drank liquor at the lodge. This ended with an argument over a money transaction between them. Arumugam stabbed Guru with a knife and fled from spot.

Lodge employees rescued him and admitted in the government hospital in Pollachi where he died. Pollachi police registered a case and arrested Guru.
In a third incident at Perur near Coimbatore, Chinnadurai, 37, a resident of Narasipuram was murdered by a gang which broke his head with a beer bottle.
The gang also attempted to burn the body in the woods near Perur and left the body there. Perur police registered a case and launched investigation.
