Two cops suspended for taking bribe in Nilambur
The action came after the visuals of handing over the bribe was released by the truck owner.
MALAPPURAM: The Home Department has suspended two policemen of Armed Reserve Camp of Nilambur on Thursday pending inquiry for receiving bribe from a truck owner. The policemen under suspension are Manu Prasad and K. Haris.
The policemen received a bribe of Rs 50,000 for not registering case against the owner of the truck which had hit a bike in the wee hours of Wednesday, when they were allegedly smuggling out sand.
The action came after the visuals of handing over the bribe was released by the truck owner. Interestingly the duo was part of the anti-sand smuggling squad constituted by Malappuram SP U.Abdul Karim.
Though the mafia elements promised Rs 40,000, the policemen insisted on more, resulting in filming the process by the truck owner.
