Ex-tata staffer dupes doctor of Rs 1.4 crore

City-based surgeon Dr. G. Nagasaina Rao, duped of Rs 1.4 crore by the accused, lodged a complaint with the CCS police.

Hyderabad: A 57 year-old ex-employee of Tata Fertilisers who cheated a cardio-surgeon from the city under the guise of promising orders for supply of the Agricultural farm inputs under the Prime Minister Krishi Vikas Yojana scheme (PMKVY) and siphoned off `1.40 crore, was arrested by the Central Crime Station’s (CCS), Detective department (DD) police on Wednesday. Police said there might be many more victims cheated by him.

According to the police, the accused Chamarthy G. Pattabhiraman, along with his accomplices, cheated the complainant Dr. G.Nagasaina Rao, 60, under the guise of investment, to tune of `1.4 crore, promising him that he would secure orders for the supply of agricultural farm inputs under the PMKVY Scheme 2016-17 to the Government of West Bengal.

The accused lured the victim stating that they have obtained orders from the Government of West Bengal. Believing it, the victim purchased material from a private company in Mumbai. G.Venkateshwarulu, ACP, F Division, CCS, DD said, “The accused used to trick victims by showing them fabricated and fake orders created by him in the name of Dr. Paritosh Bhattachharya, Director of Agriculture, West Bengal and Mr Pijush Kanti Pramanick, Director of Horticulture (Technical), Government of West Bengal by forging their signatures.”

The detective department booked a case of cheating and forgery against the accused in the month of June 2019 and it was investigated by K. Manoj Kumar, Inspector of Police, CCS, DD, Hyderabad.

According to the ACP, the arrests came following an investigation into a case. Apparently, as a part of the investigation, a manhunt was conducted at various places in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other places to apprehend the accused and at last the police succeeded in taking the accused into custody on Wednesday at West Marredpally.
