P Pranay Kumar's killers remanded

The contract for the killing was set for Rs 1 crore.

Hyderabad: The Miryalaguda police produced six persons arrested for the murder of 24-year-old P. Pranay Kumar, in a local court on Wednesday. The court remanded the accused to 14 days judicial custody.

On Tuesday, the police arrested Pranay Kumar’s father-in-law T. Maruthi Rao, Azgar Ali, Md Abdul Bari, Abdul Kareen, Sravan Kumar, and S. Shiva. The man who is said to have hacked Pranay Kumar to death was identified as Subhash Kumar alias Sharma of Bihar. He was caught there and produced in a local court before he is brought to the city on a PT warrant.

It may be recalled that on September 14, Pranay Kumar was hacked to death as he and his pregnant wife Amruth Varshini were returning from hospital after a health check up.

The motive for the crime was caste, as Pranay was a Dalit and had married Maruthi Rao’s daughter against the latter’s wishes. The contract for the killing was set for Rs 1 crore.

Mohammed Azgar Ali and Md Abdul Bari who were part of the conspiracy had been acquitted by a court in Gujarat in connection with the murder of the then Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya in 2003.
