Amidst stench, family cooked, ate and slept

Police still hunts for son who hacked railway pensioner.

The family of murdered railway pensioner Suthari Maruti Kishan, whose body parts were found stuffed in buckets on Sunday, used room fresheners to overcome the foul smell his hacked body gave off. His wife Gaya, daughter Praful and son Kishan, the main suspect who is absconding, cooked and ate food at least four times after the murder, even as the decomposing body parts were stored in another room.

Police officers said that the family kept to themselves. If they had disposed of the body elsewhere, no one would have known of the murder, he said.

On August 18, Malkajgiri police recovered the body of Maruti that was chopped up and placed in six buckets in his house at RTC Colony in Moula Ali. Police has taken Gaya and Praful into custody for questioning while Kishan is absconding.

Investigations by police reveal that there were frequent disputes between Maruti and Kishan, who was unemployed, over financial issues. Kishan used to borrow money from his father while Maruti who was reportedly habituated to alcohol, ill-treated his family members. On August 16, Maruti’s son-in-law K. Ravi, an autorickshaw driver from East Marredpally, came visiting. At night, Maruti was killed, allegedly by Kishan.

“The house was like a cave. There are six rooms with little ventilation. We were surprised to see such a house. Maruti’s son and daughter are said to be suffering from some health complications,” a police official said.

Gaya and Praful were in the adjacent room when Kishan killed his father and chopped the body to bits. “They were worried about their safety and did not report the murder,” an official said.

“Kishan bought the buckets and stuffed the body parts in them. The head was placed in one bucket, the intestines, liver, and stomach in another. He used a kitchen knife and another weapon to chop the body,” said an official.

Responding to a query, the police official said: “The body was decomposing. To avoid the foul smell, they purchased eight room fresheners. They cooked and ate food in the house for almost two days.”

The post-mortem on Maruti’s body was performed at the Gandhi Hospital mortuary on Monday. The doctors have sent the viscera for DNA analysis and to check whether he was poisoned. The doctors said that the mental condition of the murderer could have not been normal. “There could be some mental disorder with the person who did this (chopping).”
