Bengaluru: Burglar held, Rs 16 lakh property recovered

After a spurt in house theft cases in the west division, DCP (West) M.N. Anucheth had formed a special team.

Bengaluru: The Vijayanagar police have arrested a notorious habitual house break-in and theft (HBT) offender and claim to have solved 14 cases of theft reported in different police stations in the west division.

The arrested burglar, K. Vijay Simha alias Ravi Kumar (41), a resident of Vidyamanya Nagar in Byadarahalli, was involved in many HBT cases in the west division since 2005 and has been arrested a number of times. But he got out on bail every time, and continued with his criminal activities.

After a spurt in house theft cases in the west division, DCP (West) M.N. Anucheth had formed a special team. Based on a tipoff, Vijay Simha was arrested from Mysuru on June 18. During the interrogation, Vijay confessed to 14 burglaries and also said that he committed the burglaries to lead a luxurious life. The police, with his arrest, claimed to have solved theft cases in Vijayanagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Vyalikaval, Hanumanthanagar, Chennammanakere Achukattu, Basavanagudi and Kalasipalya police stations. The police also recovered 650 gm of gold ornaments and 3 kg of silver ornaments worth Rs 16,50,000 from him.
