Hyderabad: An old couple was injured seriously when an armed robber entered their house and attacked them in a bid to rob their house in Nalgonda district.  The suspect stabbed the husband and wife who tried to stop the robbery.

The robber, however, could not take any gold from the house as locals gathered hearing the couple’s scream. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Vinayakanagar in Athmakur mandal.

The victims, L. Somaiah, 60, a trader and his wife, L. Ramulamma, 58, were shifted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad with stab injuries on their chest and stomach. Doctors said that Somaiah is being treated in the Intensive Care unit while the condition of Ramulamma is stable.

“The couple were sleeping when the robber entered their house. He broke into the house through the front door with a blunt weapon and knife. When the couple woke up and shouted for help in order to stop them, he stabbed and hit them.

Meanwhile, locals started arriving at the spot. The suspect then escaped from the spot without taking any money or gold,” said Athmakur sub-inspector P. Shivanaga Prasad.

Police has started an investigation after booking a case. A manhunt has been launched to track down the suspect.
