Hoax bomb threat at Kempegowda International Airport, security up

Immediately after receiving the letter, a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at the airport.

Bengaluru: Tense moments prevailed for sometime at the Kempegowda International Airport on Monday evening after the authorities received a letter threatening a bomb at the airport.

Immediately after receiving the letter, a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at the airport. The BTAC searched the entire airport before terming the threat ‘non-specific’. An FIR was filed with the airport police.

“The airport continues to remain on high alert and security has been beefed up in and around the terminal. Additional security has been deployed at all passenger areas that include car park and kerb. KIAB in collaboration with CISF and state police continues to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of all its passengers,” read an official statement.

The airport police questioned Tayyabur Rahman, a 45-year-old owner of a tours and travels company in RT Nagar. The police, however, said that it was a non-specific case and someone tried to implicate Rahman.

The police have seized the laptop and mobile phones of Rahman to verify his background and are probing further to trace the person behind the act.
