28-year-old techie jumps to death from 8th floor
Bengaluru: A 28-year-old software professional jumped from the bathroom window of his eighth floor office in an MNC building in SEZ, Eco Space in Bellanduru near HSR Layout on Monday night. The father of the deceased alleged harassment at workplace.
The deceased, Gulshan Chopra, a resident of Bellandur, hailed from Jalandhar in Punjab. He was working as a quality analyst at Genpact Software Company for the past one-and-a-half years and was staying alone at a paying guest accommodation in the city. His office is situated in Tower 12 of Eco Space.
Around 11.20 pm, Gulshan, who had come to work, went into the bathroom in his office on the eighth floor and jumped to his death. He had recently returned to the city from his hometown after a two-week break and had reported back to work on Monday.
His father Mukesh Chopra told Deccan Chronicle, “Gulshan was troubled as his new manager, Rahul, used to reprimand him over work. This could be the reason behind my son’s suicide. He had just returned from home and was happy. If the police check the the email conversations between the manager and my son, it would become clear to them.”
The police have learnt that Gulshan had recently got engaged to a girl in Punjab and his marriage was scheduled for November. The police suspect love angle behind the suicide.
On Monday night, building security guards heard a loud thud when Gulshan fell near the parking lot. They found him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The police said that Gulshan has not left behind any suicide note and that they are probing all angles. “We are taking statements from the family and the senior colleagues, and trying to find out whether he had any problems at the workplace or was depressed over some family issue,” a police officer said.
