Maoist Charles of Adilabad district shot dead
Adilabad: Dreaded Maoist Atram Shoban, 35, alias Charles of Adilabad district and two other Maoists of Chattishgarh were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Greyhound, Telangana and C-60 commandos of Maharashtra in the Kamalapur forest area in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Sunday.
Police seized an AK-47, an SLR and a .303 rifle from the encounter scene. Charles was a Adilabad district committee member of CPI (Maoists) and was leading the Mangi dalam considered an active dalam in Telangana.
The bodies of the three Maoists were found at the encounter site while some reportedly managed to escape. Atram Shoban alias Charles was carrying a Rs 4 lakh reward on his head and was involved in 19 offenses in Adilabad district. The other two bodies were identified as that of Dinesh and Mukesh.
Police said Charles went underground in 2004 and was involved in burning dumpers at the Dorli opencast mine in 2009 and killing the Adivasi Ballarsha in October 2016 and also in torching the machinery used in the construction of the inter-state bridge on Godavari at Gudem in April 2016.
