Conman steals girl's jewels on birthday in Vijayawada

The conman instructed the girl to remove the ornaments and give it to him for safekeeping in the principal's office.

Vijayawada: A conman robbed gold ornaments worth more than Rs 20,000 from a Class V student of Nirmala Convent in Patamata who was celebrating her birthday.

P. Soumya Pranavi, 10, was wearing a chain with locket and a ring to school. The conman approached the girl pretending to be a school employee, and told the girl that gold ornaments were not allo-wed in school, and took them away, her father Mr Gopinath said.

The conman instructed the girl to remove the ornaments and give it to him for safekeeping in the principal’s office. After Soumya gave him the ornaments, he went to the school office along with the student. From there, he disappeared.

He left the school on a two-wheeler, Mr Gopinath said. Four of the 11 CCTV cameras installed in the school recorded the episode, said Patamata inspector G. Kennadi. They are using the images to track him down.

CCS additional SP G. Ramakoteswara Rao said the police had identified the conman and would arrest him within a couple of days.
