Cyberabad: Paytm a saviour, aids cops recover mobiles

Analysis of CCTV helped them lay their hands on a four-member gang of juveniles involved in 16 such cases.

Hyderabad: Taking a cue from a Paytm purchase made at a food court near Shilparamam, the Madhapur police solved a mobile snatching case. Analysis of CCTV footage helped them lay their hands on a four-member gang of juveniles that was involved in 16 such cases in different parts of Cyberabad.

The four boys were nabbed and police recovered 15 high-end mobiles and two two-wheelers used for snatching, all worth more than '3 lakh from their possession, according to ACP Madhapur N. Shyam Prasad Rao. The boys were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday.

On May 10, a techie was using his cellphone to book a cab near Cyber Towers. Two boys riding a bike snatched the phone and sped away and a case was registered. Later, the techie received an alert that a '1,000 had been made at a food court through his Paytm account and he immediately alerted Madhapur police.

Police analysed the CCTV image at the time of the purchase and confirmed with the food court staff that the boys who made purchases were regular visitors. A team was deployed there and when they came to the food court again, the police tried to nab them. The boys tried to escape but were nabbed after a brief chase.

On inquiry, they admitted to have snatched 15 phones under the Cyberabad commissionerate limits in the past two years. The ACP said that two of the four boys were earlier nabbed by Miyapur police for display of swords in a wedding baraat.
