Fake sub-inspector arrested in Bengaluru

The arrest was made from Bhattarahalli on Wednesday evening and the the accused has been identified as Pradeep.

Bengaluru: A 28-year-old post graduate was beaten at his own game when alert residents caught him red-handed while trying to extort money from PG accommodation owners by posing as a sub-inspector, in K.R. Puram police station limits.

The arrest was made from Bhattarahalli on Wednesday evening and the the accused has been identified as Pradeep, a resident of T.C. Palya. Pradeep is a MA in Economics and hailed from Mulabigilu. According to the police, Pradeep had failed to secure a job after completing his studies, while some of his friends got into police services and a few even got posted as sub-inspectors. Pradeep, who used to pass time with them, began closely observing them and in order to make quick buck, he bought a police uniform along with single star to pose as sub-inspector.

Investigations revealed that during evenings Pradeep used to observe the paying guest accommodations located in K.R. Puram area. He then would approach PG owners and threaten them of booking cases for their alleged illegal activities and extort money. However, he ran out of luck on Wednesday during his usual rounds at Bhattarahalli. Alert residents called Hoysala police, who nabbed him and took him into custody. During the interrogation he confessed to the crime and told the police that he wanted to make easy money, police added.

K.R. Puram police produced Pradeep before the magistrate and later he was remanded to judicial custody.
