Chennai: 8-year-old girl molested, search on for accused

Mother sees bruises and takes her to hospital.

Chennai: The Kancheepuram all-women Police have launched a search for a man who allegedly molested a young girl near Kavalan gate in Kancheepuram.

The accused, Kotteshwaran (45), an employee of a roadside eatery in Kavalan gate, has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(Pocso) Act, 2012.

According to police, the victim's mother, a private export company employee, a resident of Valantheeswaran Kovil Thoppu street near Kavalan gate, lodged a complaint with the Kancheepuram superintendent of police on Friday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the accused noticed the 8-year-old girl while she was playing near her house, and asked her to go with him to his house. When she refused, he forcefully took her to his house on his bike, where he allegedly raped her. The girl managed to escape later.

Next day, her mother noticed that her child seemed exhausted and fragile. She further noticed some bite marks and bruises on her daughter's body, but sexual harassment did not occur to her as a possibility. Upon enquiry, the child said nothing.

The mother took her child to the doctor as the bruises seemed serious. The doctor, upon examination of the child, immediately identified what had happened and informed the mother that her daughter had been molested by someone. Later, the girl opened up to her mother, who immediately lodged a complaint with the SP of Kancheepuram to take action against the man.

Subsequently, the Kancheepuram AWPS were informed and a case was registered. “The accused has been charged with kidnapping, assault, and physical contact under the Indian Penal Code. He has also been booked under the Pocso Act. Probe is on to nab Kotteshwaran, who has gone missing after the incident,” said the police.
