Telangana: Betting gang busted
Hyderabad: Special Operations Team (SOT) conducted raids and arrested 13 people for cricket betting in Vanasthalipuram and Uppal under Uppal Police Station and recovered Rs 2,66,450 along with 15 cell phones and a tablet from their possession.
In the Vanasthalipuram case, the arrested were identified as Gonuganti Sambasiva Rao, 38, Vattikonda Venkata Krishna Rao, 45 and Haradi Ganapathi, 33. The bookie, Kiran, who is still absconding, was organising cricket bettings during the IPL matches by inviting bets from the punters with the assistance of Sambasiva Rao. Venkata Krishna and Haradi Ganapathi are punters who are betting during the matches with the assistant bookie, Sambasiva Rao. Based on a tip off, the team from Malkajgiri zone apprehended the accused and seized Rs 1,07,000 and four cell phones from them.
In another case of betting in Vanasthalipuram area, six people were arrested by police. They were identified as Taneeru Nagaraju, 33, Bookie, Taneeru Hari Babu, 40, Hari Babu, 31, Koushik Maharshi,:25, Anagari Babu Rao, 53, Elemineti Venkat Reddy, 41. Taneeru Nagaraju, with the assistance of Hari Babu and others, organised the bettings during the IPL matches inviting bets from the punters. Based on a tip off, SOT of LB Nagar Zone apprehended the accused and recovered Rs 1,44,000, seven cell phones and one laptop from their possession.
In the Uppal betting case, police officials arrested four persons identified as Ande Anil Kumar, 31, Mekala Jagdish Raj, 40, Kadam Shiva Kumar, 38 and Boigoni Naveen Kumar, 33. The absconding bookies, Sanjay Kumar and Pittala Srinivas, with the assistance of Anil Kumar and Jagdish Raj were organising bettings during the IPL matches. SOT Malkajgiri Zone apprehended the accused and seized Rs 15,450 and four cell phones from their possession.
